Important notes for self-employed and freelancers
This calculator is designed for employees. Self-employed individuals and freelancers do not pay Lohnsteuer (payroll tax) but instead pay Einkommensteuer (income tax) via advance payments — and cover health and long-term care insurance entirely themselves. Sole traders also pay Gewerbesteuer (trade tax). Those transitioning to self-employment or GmbH directors managing both personal and business income should factor in these differences separately. An independent financial adviser can give a more reliable picture.
About the accuracy of results
Results are indicative. Individual factors such as work-related expenses (Werbungskosten), special expenses (Sonderausgaben), child allowances or extraordinary costs are not included. For precise figures, consult a tax adviser or book a personal financial consultation.
